With the spring 2016 season a wrap, it's time to take a look at how the Spartans did. Led by senior captain Ray Gadjkowski, the team had 3 wins and 2 losses in their spring schedule. The team was coached this spring by Kevin Newhams and Gareth Craze.
One of the most notable moments of the spring was the April 2nd game against the Carnegie Mellon University Tartans. The game, which was an evening game pitted the rivals at DiSanto Field. The game, which ended in a 17-0 Spartan win was notable for both the shutout win and for the unusual weather. The game started in sun, but eventually turned to hail and eventually several inches of snow, making the game a physical slugfest.
However, the season did not go perfectly. Playing in their first game of the season, a February 27th game against Division I powerhouse Wheeling Jesuit University, the Spartans were handed a swift defeat, losing 92-3. Playing many newcomers to the sport, the Spartans initially held their own against the Cardinals, before eventually falling.
Overall, the Spartans had a great spring that was one to certainly be proud of and build on for the upcoming fall season. With many returning players, the Spartans will look to make the upcoming season their best yet.
