Spartans Roll to 29 - 7 Victory

September 12, 2016

Playing through rain and wind Saturday at DiSanto Field, the Spartans rolled to a 29 - 7 victory over the University of Akron Zips. Dotting down 5 tries, and completing 2 conversions, the Spartan offense looked potent thanks to strong performances by both the forwards and the backs. Strong rucking, ball handling, and scrumming rounded out the performance.

With tries scored by Alex Previts, Ryan Berg, Jesse Martin, and Sean Goers (2x), the team was able to both pound the ball with the forwards and distribute it to the backs for points. Tay Ye also completed 2 conversions to round out the scoring. Additionally, Ryan Berg blocked 2 kicks, and the front row of Kyle Macdonald, Dave Cunningham, and Matthew Gabriel had a powerful day in the scrums.

Earning Man of the Match honors in his first game with the Spartans was newcomer Tay Ye. Tay is a Junior exchange student from Singapore who played scrum-half. Tay had an excellent day of distributing the ball, running, and rucking throughout the entire game.

The Spartans will look to keep up their success this Saturday (9/17) when they take on the Ohio Northern University Polar Bears at DiSanto Field.
